Creating a Healthy Home with Essential Oils: Fall Edition

Updated: Oct 12, 2020

With fall right around the corner, the fun decor comes out, am I right? And would I also be right to say that it probably includes some yummy smelling candles, like pumpkin spice or fall harvest? I am a total summer girl myself, however, fall has to be my second favorite time of year. Football, fun fall events, pumpkin everything, what's not to like?

So, back to my point.. how about those amazing fall smells? I am going to tell you right now how you can ditch all of those candles for something amazing that not only smells good, but also improves your health!

I try my best to keep things fair and balanced, in order to help you make the best choice for you. You've probably heard of essential oils, but if not, I am your girl. And if I don't know the answers, I've got a team full of oily friends ready to help! Essential oils have played a major role in not only my own health, but also my entire family. It all started with my husbands back pain and looking for something to help him. (Yes, there's an oil for that!) Since then I have been using oils for things like home cleaning, stress relief, sleep aid, energy boosting, the list goes on! I could give you a whole run down on oils, but for the sake of not repeating what's already been done, click here for a good overview on an introduction to essential oils.

Now that you have a better idea, let me tell you all about how you can achieve those same amazing fall scents in your home while also enjoying the wonderful benefits to your health!

1. Diffuse the oils

If you have a diffuser, that's great, if not, there is one that comes in the Starter kit for Young Living Essential Oils (my preferred oil source for the highest quality essential oils, they use no fillers or unknown chemical additives to their oils- just purely plant oils!)

You will need some distilled water for your diffuser, and below is my favorite fall blend! All of these come in your starter kit too.

Fall Spice Blend: 3 drops of Stress Away (relieves stress, duh), 3 drops of Lemon (calming, increases concentration), 2 drops of Thieves (neutralizes the air from odors and bacteria)

2. Roll on the oils

All you need are some glass roller containers (found mine on Amazon), a carrier oil (Young Living has a great one called V6, or you can use coconut oil), and your essential oils! You simply roll them directly onto the skin to receive the benefits, and bonus-- you will smell great too!

My favorite roller blend for fall:

Immunity Support Blend: Fight of those yucky germs with 20 drops of lemon, 20 drops of frankincense, and 15 drops of thieves. Fill the rest of the roller with the carrier oil of your choice.

3. Clean up with the Oils

Using essential oils also allows you to ditch some of the awful cleaning chemicals you use. You don't have to worry about toxins because, again, it's all plant oils! They also smell 10x better than any other cleaner I've ever used!

Thieves Cleaning Spray: Young Living makes a Thieves all-purpose cleaner, and a sample pack of it comes in your starter kit. The best part is- you can majorly dilute it with water and it's still going to make your home sparkly clean. You can order spray bottles on Amazon as well.

Wood Floor Cleaner: to a spray bottle add 2 cups distilled water, 2 Tbsp. white vinegar, and 10 drops lemon essential oil.

Hand Soap: Young Living makes a Thieves handsoap, but did you know that you can also make your own? And it ends up being a small fraction of the cost! Here's my favorite fall scented foaming soap recipe:

10 drops of Thieves oil

5 drops of Citrus Fresh oil

1 Cup of Distilled Water

First, add the Castile soap to the dispenser, then add your oils. Shake up the dispenser, then add the water. Shake again, then you're all set!

So, now that I've given you just a very small sampling of what you can do with essential oils, what are you waiting for? Click here to sign up for your starter kit, which includes all of the oils I listed in the above recipes. And if you are not ready to get a full kit, just let me know and I can order single oils or YL products for you!

As an interior designer, I am really passionate about making the home a happy, healthy environment. It's not always just about how a space looks, but also about how it feels and the level of comfort. I promise you that with essential oils, you will enhance the feel of your home in so many positive ways!

As always, thanks for reading.
